Formula 1 Renaissance man Fernando Alonso is set to take on another challenge as he returns to one of motorsports’ demanding races.
While the F1 veteran recently renewed his contract with the Aston Martin team, he appears prepared to take on the challenge of rally before the next F1 season.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Soy Motor, the 45-year-old is due to contest the Dakar Rally, where he will be representing Aston Martin again.
The reports suggests that Alonso will be co-driven by Marc Coma and will work with his former engineer, Daniel Gratacos, in what will be a Dacia Sandrier, entered by Aston Martin, developed by Prodrive.
Alonso last raced in the Dakar Rally with Toyota in 2020, where he placed 13th.

The Dakar Rally is set to take place in Saudi Arabia in January 2027, about two months before the F1 season kicks off.
The gruelling off-road endurance race spans over the course of 15 days, and the drivers face brutal routes that typically cover around 5000 km across the competitive stages.
According to Spanish media, Alonso will make his first test run for the challenge after this week’s Singapore GP.
The two-time World Champion recently mentioned his previous outing in the event, having asserted his ambition to be the most “complete driver”.
