The Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia is still yet to start, after the formation lap brought chaos that forced an abandonment to proceedings.
Heavy rainfall delayed the start of the race, amid typically unpredictable weather conditions, but as the rain decreased and the track began to slowly dry, the cars took to the track.
Under the Safety Car, the cars would complete a standing start for the race, but chaos and confusion began to reign as Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari ground to a halt, citing a “software issue”.
All other Ferrari-powered cars appeared to report issues, too, as well as polesitter Max Verstappen. Liam Lawson’s Racing Bulls failed to get going entirely.
Both Audis also began to creep to a total stop, with the stewards calling a suspension of the start procedure.
Hamilton stops and gets going again, Lawson stranded on the grid, all Ferrari-powered cars report issues, Verstappen briefly reports an issue, both Audis stop out on track. Start procedure halted. Anyone else confused? #F1 #BahrainGP https://t.co/AiT8f1SZKG

FIA software issues have been reported for the cause of the cars’ issues.
The race is now due to start imminently, as the track is now drying rapidly.
