George Russell topped first practice for this weekend’s Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, after a somewhat chaotic session.
The Brit recovered from a near-miss at Turn 5 early on in the hour to go quickest ahead of Max Verstappen, with the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton third and fourth respectively.
Isack Hadjar’s return was blighted by an issue on his Red Bull, with Oscar Piastri also suffering from mechanical gremlins, and was joined by Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who stopped out on track with a hydraulic issue.
