Spain’s National Police have launched an investigation following reports that the new Madring street circuit was targeted in a major cable theft just two weeks out from its inaugural Formula 1 race.

According to Spanish publication ABC, thieves struck early Sunday morning, stealing approximately 300 meters of electrical wiring from a tunnel section near the IFEMA Exhibition Centre.

The stolen cables were connected to temporary generators set up to power event facilities ahead of the Spanish GP weekend.

Authorities have not made any arrests as officers continue to assess the full extent of the material stolen.

The incident comes shortly after the venue hosted an official two-day Formula 3 test session to evaluate race control, medical, and safety procedures.

The track action proved chaotic as drivers wrestled with the brand-new 22-corner layout.

Ferrari also ran a filming day at the venue last month with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, drawing questions from rivals McLaren regarding track familiarity.

Despite the operational hiccup and the ongoing police probe, final preparations for the Spanish GP remain on schedule.

Circuit organisers confirm that primary track construction is complete, leaving remaining work focused heavily on temporary infrastructure, grandstands, and fan zones ahead of F1’s arrival.
