Sergio Perez reveals F1 headhunting mission amid ‘Cadillac appetite’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Sergio Perez has revealed that he is using his years in Formula 1 as a way to potentially influence the arrival of fresh and experienced technical staff to Cadillac.

The Mexican has been one of the unsung stars of 2026, producing a string of impressive drives, often unseen, amid the American squad’s understandably difficult debut season.

Perez’s performances have come with some motivation of showing F1, particularly former employers Red Bull, what they have been missing, showing he has lost none of his sparkle behind the wheel.

And as a result, there has unsurprisingly been speculation about possible moves away from the Silverstone-based team, which caused a stir recently with the hiring of new Team Principal, Marcin Budkowski, who replaced Graeme Lowdon.

But speaking on the Beyond the Grid podcast, Perez appears to be committed to Cadillac with the revelation of using his clout in the paddock to entice fresh blood to its ranks.

“I mean, I obviously know a lot of good people out there. You know, I’ve been in this paddock for a long time,” he said.

“I’ve been trying to get a few people, of course, but at the end of the day, you have to also know your position, and I am not the one that takes those decisions on – who I bring and who I hire.

“It is not my role, but I obviously try to influence and try to tell the team. I mean, ‘I think this guy will be good if he comes’ and so on, and all I can see is that the appetite for Cadillac around the paddock is rising every time.

“And that’s something good to have as a Formula 1 team.”

Coinicidentally, Perez was spotted in the paddock at last week’s Dutch Grand Prix in close conversation with Red Bull’s chief engineer Paul Monaghan, who has been linked with a move to Cadillac.
