Arvid Lindblad leaves the Dutch GP with penalty points

The FIA has confirmed penalty point sanctions for Arvid Lindblad and Franco Colapinto following a series of yellow-flag infractions during the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix.

Both drivers endured tough races at Zandvoort, finishing 12th and 14th respectively as reigning World Champion Lando Norris secured victory for McLaren.

Lindblad received a drive-through penalty and two penalty points on his superlicence after overtaking Pierre Gasly under double yellow flags at Turn 14 on Lap 1.

“Car 41 was behind Car 10 entering Turn 14 and overtook Car 10 in the double yellow flag sector before the Line at the end of Lap 1,” the stewards’ report noted.

“Normally such infringement requires a 10 second stop/go penalty, but the Stewards acknowledge the complications caused by the significant amount of debris on track at this point and take this into account as mitigating circumstances.”

Colapinto suffered a similar fate, copping a drive-through penalty and two penalty points for passing Yuki Tsunoda under double yellows.

The Alpine driver then picked up a further 10-second time penalty and an extra penalty point for failing to slow for yellow flags at Turn 3.

“Car 43 passed a single yellow flag without discernibly reducing speed although also receiving a visible warning on the dash,” the stewards explained.

“As the infringement was not considered dangerous or egregious, a penalty on the lower end of the available scale is imposed.”

The double penalty brings Colapinto’s tally to four penalty points for the rolling 12-month period, leaving him eight points shy of triggering an automatic one-race ban.

Following the Dutch GP weekend, Racing Bulls rookie Lindblad holds 11th in the Drivers’ Championship on 23 points, with Colapinto directly behind in 12th on 19 points.
