Max Verstappen will not bring his motorsport project, Verstappen Racing, to the Formula 1 grid, despite plans to expand the team to other racing series.

Verstappen founded the eponymous team in 2022, and soon entered it into the world of endurance racing, competing in various GT3 categories since 2023.

The team has seen some early success, winning its maiden sprint race in the GT World Challenge Europe at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours earlier this month. Verstappen also stepped up to compete with the team when he made his debut at the Nürburgring 24 Hours in May.

Verstappen: “We want to be at the front”

Speaking with Formule 1 Magazine, Verstappen made it clear that he has high hopes for his racing team. Asked where he sees them in the next 10 to 20 years, he responded: “By then, there should be a professional racing team competing for victories in the various racing classes.

“Nothing more, nothing less. We’re not going to compete just because it’s fun to race.

“We want to be at the front, win races, and, at the very least, consistently compete at the front.”

“That standard must always be there. The pace of further development also depends a little bit on my own choices for the coming years and what I do in Formula 1.”

However, he clarified that the team’s sole focus will be on endurance racing, and seemed to rule out the prospect of Verstappen Racing entering any single-seater series in the future.

“It’s definitely the goal to expand the racing team further. Specifically toward endurance racing, not toward Formula 1 or anything like that,” Verstappen said.

F1 “too demanding” for Max Verstappen to run own racing team

Max Verstappen’s retirement from F1 has been a topic of discussion recently as the Red Bull driver has expressed his distaste for the new 2026 regulations. Such discussions have been further fuelled by Verstappen’s evident interest in endurance racing, with the Dutchman suggesting he may become more involved in such categories when he eventually retires from F1.

However, pressed on whether the team might join the F1 grid at some point, Verstappen vehemently rejected the idea.

“No! Because that’s way too demanding,” he said. “Then I’d still be on the road for 24 races a year or very busy with my own racing team.

“Outsource things? Yeah, that’s possible. But I think that if you’re a truly dedicated team owner who wants to get everything right, you have to stay on top of things and be there in person.”

“Of course, you also need people who can run the team’s day-to-day operations effectively, but I’m not the type of person who can lie on a beach for five races without knowing what’s going on with my team.

“That would cause me too much stress, and I don’t want that.”
