iRacing and IndyCar have announced more details surrounding the upcoming release of a standalone IndyCar video game.
IndyCar Racing The Game, which was revealed as the official title, was originally set for a 2026 release but is now schedule for early 2027.
The title will be released on Playstation 5, Xbox, and Steam on PC platforms concurrently, making use of iRacing’s existing simulation engine and assets.
“IndyCar features the most competitive and action-packed racing on the planet, challenging drivers at every turn with incredible speeds and demanding layouts,” said Alex Damron, IndyCar Chief Marketing Officer.
“Our new video game is going to capture the energy and drama of our sport with hyper-realism, bringing our series to a new generation of gamers.
“Partnering with iRacing — the gold standard in racing simulation — ensures this will be a truly special new chapter in our gaming history. We can’t wait for fans to get behind the wheel.”
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of this title, as IndyCar has not had an officially licensed video game release since 2004.
IndyCar worked with Motorsport Games a few years ago to produce a standalone title that was to be released in 2023.
Development of the game stalled with only a few early screenshots released, and eventually the project was cancelled.
This current partnership with iRacing was announced late last year, and will take advantage of iRacing’s popular simulation environment to bring a fully-featured game to market.
iRacing has featured the current Dallara DW-12 chassis inside its existing game for many years, and was one of the first to simulate the Aeroscreen when it was introduced to the series in 2020.
More details about IndyCar Racing The Game modes and features are expected as the release draws nearer.
