Danilo Petrucci has acknowledged that BMW wants to see his true potential on the bike before deciding on his WorldSBK future.
The Italian joined the Bavarian manufacturer after three years with Barni Spark Racing on a Ducati, marking his return to factory status for the first time since riding for Ducati’s MotoGP factory team in 2019.
Petrucci, like team-mate Miguel Oliveira, signed a one-year deal with an option for a second season, but BMW did not exercise its option for either rider before the deadline.
The 35-year-old’s best result this season remains sixth place in Race 2 at Phillip Island, before a crash at Most forced him to miss three rounds, equating to a quarter of the championship.
“I’m not so satisfied about the beginning of the season. BMW aren’t satisfied with my results,” shared Petrucci with the media, including Motorsport Week at Donington Park.
“We miss the tests, and unfortunately, I got injured at the busiest time on the calendar. At this moment, I have nothing to lose. I know this is not our full potential.
“In general, the bike is more or less the same; there were some adjustments I like, so let’s see if we improve our situation.
“I told you the season didn’t start as we wanted, then unfortunately having that big accident. I just think BMW wants to understand my real potential before being sure to continue in 2027.
“Sincerely. I am not scared or under pressure. I knew since I joined this project I gave my best, if it’s not enough, it means I’m not enough.
“I will [still] do my best, and let’s see in the future.”
