After taking his 102nd career victory, Marc Marquez believes his Sachsenring MotoGP triumph ranks among his most significant wins.
The Spaniard completed a perfect weekend by securing pole, Sprint and Grand Prix victory, winning comfortably and securing the maximum 37 points.
Marquez now sits 18 points behind championship leader Jorge Martin after clawing back an over-100-point deficit to then-championship leader Marco Bezzecchi.
“I’m super happy. It was a special weekend for me. I was very focused,” Marquez explained via Speedweek.
“I said that I had to attack here if I wanted to have any chance in the World Championship. And we attacked.
“We have to see it through when we’re strong. We’ve shown that in the recent races.
“It’s something special to celebrate my tenth MotoGP victory here. That’s a really special achievement.
“A win is a win, but this one definitely belongs in the top 10.”
The 33-year-old’s victory meant that he added his win tally to ten victories in Saxony, his most successful track on the calendar.
In addition, his Sprint win on Saturday was his 19th, giving him the record for the most Sprint victories since the format was introduced.
Though that’s an achievement Marquez is happy to accomplish, he revealed what would have made the result better.
“Ten wins at one MotoGP track are obviously impressive. I’m super happy,” he said.
“To be honest, though, I’m not completely satisfied because I would have liked to see Alex on the podium.
“I saw how hard he worked after the race in Montmeló. That was really impressive. I wasn’t expecting that.
“Yes, he’s a hard worker, but this time he surpassed even that.”
