VR46 Ducati rider Fabio Di Giannantonio refuses to let his Sachsenring MotoGP crash define his season despite a title setback.

With Marc Marquez sealing the maximum 37 points, Ai Ogura claiming a third consecutive podium, Jorge Martin finishing fifth and Marco Bezzecchi sidelined through injury, Di Giannantonio scored no points after crashing out of the main race for the first time this season.

The Roman rider dropped down to fifth in the standings as a result, though he is still 24 points behind title leader Martin.

“It’s the first mistake of the season,” he reflected via GPone.

“It’s a shame it happened, but statistically, it was bound to happen sooner or later. We’re trying to figure out what went wrong.

“We looked at the data, and it was a carbon copy of the previous lap: suspension settings, speed, lean angle, throttle opening… everything was identical.

“It’s a bit strange, but that’s part of racing. Sometimes you crash and can’t even explain why: it’s a combination of factors.

“The fact remains that this first half of the championship has been full of positives. We’ve consistently shown great speed.

“We were competitive again today, and we need to carry all of that with us into the summer break.”

Di Giannantonio’s philosophical outlook shows that he remains extremely happy with his season, having climbed to a career-best position in the championship standings before the summer break.

Bar Balaton Park, where he had been taken out at Turn 1 by Jorge Martin and ended up finishing 12th, he has consistently finished inside the top-6 in every Sunday race.

“We’re having a fantastic season: lots of podiums in both the Sprints and the main races, lots of great results,” he shared.

“The most important thing is that the speed is always there—it’s not just a fluke. We’re competitive wherever we go.

“When I look at the big picture, I think we’re having a truly wonderful season. It’s a championship I’m really enjoying.

“I’m having fun every weekend, and in the last few races I’ve found myself thinking, ‘What an incredible season.’ And there’s a wonderful atmosphere in the garage.”
