Charles Leclerc led a Ferrari one-two in the first practice session of the 2026 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, finishing ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Teams were eager to start learning how the 2026 cars would fare in Monte-Carlo, given the unique characteristics of the Monaco GP circuit.
An orderly queue formed at the end of the pit lane at the green light, almost everyone taking to the track.
What became clear early on, was the pace of Ferrari’s SF-26 at Charles Leclerc’s home circuit, as he and Hamilton quickly found their feet.
It was the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli topped the session, splitting them, but it was further back that the action could be found.
Isack Hadjar crashes out of FP1 for Monaco GP
With under twenty minutes to go, Isack Hadjar became the unfortunate first driver to become acquainted with Monaco’s unforgiving barriers.
Hitting the wall at Tabac, he destroyed the right rear of his RB22, as well as significantly damaging the front of the car.
With FP2 only a matter of hours away, Red Bull face a race against time to repair the Frenchman’s car, with the true extent of the damage yet to be finalised.
When the session restarted, Ferrari solidified their place at the top of the order, with Leclerc leading Hamilton.
Fernando Alonso dallanced with the barriers, but the Spaniard was lucky, damaging the front wing endplate and able to continue.
