After making his GT3 debut at Paul Ricard, Lance Stroll is looking forward to having another opportunity in a world outside of Formula 1.
It was a difficult debut for Stroll, alongside Roberto Merhi and Mari Boya, facing a race full of penalties. The team incurred blue flag infringements and track limit violations, totalling 8 minutes and 25 seconds of penalties.
Yet Stroll remained upbeat regarding the debut.
“I enjoyed my debut in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and even with limited preparation I felt good in the car, and the pace was very encouraging,” He told the media.
“I was one of the fastest during my stint, and every lap, I was getting more comfortable with the car and improving my lap times.
“Of course, the race was basically over when I started my stint due to several issues we’d had, but nevertheless, it was great to drive, run in the race conditions at night, and gain experience in a highly competitive championship.
Eventually, the debut came to an end with Stroll in the pit lane after a gear selection issue, and they decided to retire the car.
“I’d like to thank the team for bringing the opportunity together really quickly and for giving us a fast car to drive. It was great fun!”
Excited to return
Though his stint was cut short and they plummeted down the order, it hasn’t put off Stroll, who eagerly awaits his next turn in GT3 machinery.
“I had a lot of fun, and I look forward to doing more GT racing soon,” he said.
“Let’s see when the calendar allows, but I look forward to driving the Vantage GT3 again soon.”
Following in Max Verstappen’s footsteps, more drivers are stepping into endurance racing alongside F1 campaigns, much like drivers before them.
As F1 faces mounting criticism under the new regulations, it’s not surprising to see drivers branching out.
