Fans of Mick Schumacher could switch off early after his IndyCar debut at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg did not last long.

The son of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael has made the switch to IndyCar this year, joining Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

Starting 21st, Schumacher would have been natrually keen to impress in the 100-lap race, which marked the start of the 2026 season.

But disaster struck early, when he was collected by Santino Ferrucci, who had been hit by Sting Ray Robb, with whom he had been jostling with for position going into Turn 4.

The three ended-up entangled with each other, and whilst Robb was able to rejoin the race, albeit several laps down, Ferrucci and Schumacher were out on the spot.
