Former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has lambasted Sergio Perez for his recent outspoken comments made against former employers Red Bull.

The Mexican was ousted by the Milton Keynes-based squad at the end of the 2024 season, after a disappointing campaign, 285 points behind team-mate Max Verstappen.

Perez recently appeared on the Cracks podcast, in which he delivered some damning takedowns of the team, and its dynamic in which Verstappen was given top billing.

But Montoya, who raced in F1 between 2001 and 2006, took to his own podcast – MontoyAS – to wonder whether Perez has maybe taken his level of criticism too far.

“If you look at it from the perspective of a Mexican Perez fan, you could argue that Red Bull hasn’t treated him entirely fairly,” the Colombian said.

“But as he himself said, he knew what he was getting into. Unfair or not, Red Bull did help him get five wins. How much can you complain then?

“In the end, one can complain about the fact that the car was sometimes undrivable, but there were also many good things.

“Red Bull also gave him a lot of opportunities. If he was comfortable in the car, he did an excellent job.”

Perez appears fired up against of his return to F1, after spending 2025 out, given the lateness in Red Bull’s decision to replace him with Liam Lawson.

The 36-year-old is back, alongside Valtteri Bottas at Cadillac, and has already put in some testing miles for the American squad at Imola late last year, in a loaned Ferrari SF-23.
