Liam Lawson has confirmed that he is still “on hold” within the Red Bull stable as he waits to learn whether he will remain on the Formula 1 grid in 2026.

The New Zealander began the current season at Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen but was moved back to the sister team after two tough opening races.

Despite a steady run of points finishes since returning to Racing Bulls, Lawson’s future remains unclear as the team weighs up several options for next year.

Isack Hadjar has impressed and is being linked with the second Red Bull seat, while highly rated junior Arvid Lindblad could be promoted to Racing Bulls.

Asked when he expects clarity from Red Bull, Lawson admitted the wait has been frustrating.

“I’d love to know tomorrow, honestly,” he told media including Motorsport Week.

“But obviously, in this camp, it’s very normal to be left on hold a little bit. That’s how it is at the moment.

“I know the only thing that has control over that is my performance in the car. So until I have that answer, that’s just what I’m focused on.”

Lawson aims to let results do the talking

Lawson has vowed to let his results do the talking as he aims to secure a long-term place within the Red Bull fold.

Having replaced Daniel Ricciardo with six races to go in 2024, the Kiwi is hoping that a return to more familiar tracks will be advantageous in the closing rounds.

“There are some very exciting, unique, cool races coming up as well,” he added.

“For me as well, having done a full cycle of tracks, going to tracks that I’ve done before, it’s exciting. It’s the part I enjoy most out of the season.

“So I would say I’m more focused on that than anything else.”

While Red Bull considers its 2026 options, Lawson’s task is clear: he has to deliver consistent results that make his case too compelling to ignore.
