Oscar Piastri believes that his experience in previous categories will help him deal with the pressure as it increases during the Formula 1 championship duel in 2025.
Piastri approaches the remaining seven races with a 25-point lead advantage over McLaren team-mate Lando Norris, with Max Verstappen another 44 points behind.
The Australian’s lead had grown as high as 34 points when Norris retired in the Netherlands, but the Briton has reduced the gap over the previous two race weekends.
Norris missed the golden chance to make bigger inroads last time out in Baku as he couldn’t muster higher than seventh once Piastri crashed out on the opening lap.
But as he strives to bounce back this weekend in Singapore, Piastri is hopeful that his title-winning campaigns in Formula 3 and 2 will ease the mental burden on him.
“The intensity will kind of naturally increase as we get closer to the end of the year, and I’m ready for that,” Piastri told media including Motorsport Week.
“I’ve been in this position before in other championships, and that kind of feeling and that countdown to the end of the year are the same. So I am ready for that,
Piastri to use Webber guidance to handle title pressure
Piastri has indicated that he will be relying on manager Mark Webber’s guidance, his compatriot having experienced an intra-team title duel whilst at Red Bull in 2010.
“And I can lean on Mark, but it is ultimately down to how I manage it, how I drive, and how I cope with things which are going to be coming.
“But having an important team around you and a good group of people around you is very important to be able to lean on.
“Mark is certainly one of those people, and I’m excited to see how it goes.”
