Max Verstappen has made a big statement on his GT3 future after the Formula 1 star took an impressive debut victory at the Nurburgring on Saturday.

The Dutchman scored the win on what was his maiden outing in the Ferrari 296 alongside British team-mate Chris Lulham at the infamous Nordschleife track.

Verstappen is becoming a regular at the ‘Green Hell,’ having competed in the same Nurburgring Endurance Series [NLS] just two weeks ago, in a Porsche Cayman GT4 CS.

The laps driven was enough to secure Verstappen a permit to compete at the Nurburgring 24 Hours race next year.

Verstappen also tested the same Ferrari in which he raced with Lulham in May, allegedly setting an unofficial new lap record under the pseudonym Franz Hermann.

Speaking after the victory, Verstappen spoke of how his race went, and indicated his wish to partake in the 24-hour race, for which Helmut Marko has already given permission.

“Yes, it was great. The first two stints went really well,” Verstappen said.

“The car performs well on a dry track, I already knew that from qualifying, we didn’t make any big mistakes, and to win here on our first attempt is obviously fantastic.

“I didn’t see the [first lap incident involving another car] at the time. I only saw it after my stints, but these things happen.

“Of course, I would love to compete in the 24-hour race, whether that happens next year or later, but we still need more experience for that, of course.

“That’s a given, so hopefully we can compete in more races next year.”
