Esteban Ocon has been disqualified from qualifying for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix after post-session checks found irregularities on his Haas.

The Frenchman endured a miserable afternoon at the Baku City Circuit, having been eliminated out of Q1, and was set to start the race in 18th position.

But after qualifying, it was found that the rear wing of his VF-25 deflected more than the 0.5 mm tolerance, which breaches Article 3.15.17 of the FIA’s technical regulations.

This automatically saw the matter referred to the stewards, which concluded in its report: “The calibration of the measuring instrument was verified and valid, the stewards’ report read.

“The team conceded that the test procedure as outlined in the regulations had been followed and explained that the discrepancy was a result of a problem with the production of the assembly of this specific part.

“The Stewards determine that the vehicle does not comply with the regulations and hence impose the usual penalty of disqualification from the Qualifying classifications.”

Ocon, per usual protocol, has been given permission to race after Haas’ request, and is likely to start the race from the pitlane.

It compounds a disappointing day for Haas, which saw Oliver Bearman eliminated from Q2 after a crash which saw his suspension broken, ending a day which saw much promise for the Brit. He will start the race 15th.
