The Italian GP at Monza will stay on the F1 calendar through 2031

September is upon us, and in the world of Formula 1 that means only one thing: It’s Monza time! The Italian Grand Prix holds a high prestige among the racing fans.

It is one of the oldest races in the world. Also, it is one of the rare Formula 1 races that has been around since the F1 caravan was established in 1950. Autodromo Nazionale Monza, to give it its full title, has been around for more than a century. Considering that the first race was held way back in 1921, you can see why it garners so many fans.

Yet, Formula 1 as a sport is attracting yet more new fans by the day, and there’s a chance that there are those who are not aware of everything that makes the Monza circuit so amazing.

So, before we move onto what awaits us at the 2015 Italian Grand Prix, let’s talk a bit about why Monza is one of the most hallowed races on the Formula 1 calendar.

The sheer speed of the grand prix

No other Formula 1 race can compare to Monza in terms of speed. Formula 1 Expert Picks and Predictions usually suggest that one needs to bet on the fastest lap being recorded in Monza of the year.

The circuit in Monza is unique and the teams come prepared for the speed required to win with their downforce packages. If you didn’t know, 83% of the lap is being driven on a full throttle with long straights requiring downforce optimization, and teams come geared up to deliver it.

Back in the 2000s, when Formula 1 cars were running on V10 engines max speed went up to 240mph. Today, the speed of V6 turbo charged power plants are a little lower in the 230mph range, but that’s still more than enough to rake up the excitement both on the track and in the stands as today’s cars are much faster in the corners.

Monza weekend is a holiday of racing for the sheer focus on the speed. It remains one of the rarest races where usually the fastest car and the fastest driver wins, with little to no outlook being put on tactics. It is all about getting up to speed and not getting your foot off the accelerator. It is why you need to be there at Monza to see it for yourself if you plan to bet on Formula 1 during the Italian Grand Prix.

The best atmosphere in the world

Italians are known for their passion and the good news is, it’s not only tied to football. Monza is one of two Italian circuits (Imola being the other) that host a grand prix, both circuits being in the north of the country. And with Ferrari being located equidistant between the two circuits, the fans come out in full force.

The Tifosi paint the town of Monza in red during the Italian Grand Prix and it helps that the local football team also wears red kits. Ferrari is one of the biggest teams in the Formula 1 world, and it is no secret that they have the most fans. This fact is most visible when the F1 circuit lands in Italy.

The fans will be loud, just as if you were attending a football match at the San Siro in nearby Milan. The atmosphere is electric, and the red sea of fans is a sight to behold. The pinnacle of the Italian Grand Prix comes only in the case that a Ferrari driver finds a way to get onto the podium or even winning the grand prix.

So, without trying to put any additional pressure on Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, these two will have to be at the top of their game this weekend.

The circuit atmosphere at Monza is unique- large Ferrari flag at the podium.

The historic aspect

As we already mentioned, Monza has been on the Formula 1 calendar since the beginning. It is a history track more than a century old. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza was there in 1922, long before F1 became a thing. At the time of its opening it was only one of three of its kind in the world.

When the FIA Formula 1 World Championship was born in 1950, Monza was present for the inaugural season. During its long history, the circuit underwent many changes making it safer for both the fans and the drivers. Yet, one thing was always present, the speed. The fastest race on the F1 calendar always was and remained the same, Monza.

The corner

Yes, we know, there aren’t all that many corners at Monza. That’s what makes the few it has so famous. Each is a challenge and each always delivered during a grand prix. Back in the day, the old, banked circuit was deemed too dangerous to continue racing on, so changes were made, and a new section of track was laid out into the Royal Park.

Nowadays Monza has some of the most exciting corners and chicanes in the world. It’s not for nothing that the circuit is dubbed as The Temple of Speed and it is all due to its high-speed corners, and long straights.

The names that you will recognize when it comes to naming of the corners and chicanes in Monza are Curva Grande, the Curva di Lesmo 1 and 2, the Variante Ascari and the Curva Alboreto which was formerly known as Curva Parabolica.

Speeding though these corners, straights, and chicanes is something we just can’t wait to see when today’s Formula 1 drivers like Piastri, Hamilton, Norris, Verstappen, Russell, and Leclerc, racing in the footsteps of those who came before like Schumacher, Raikkonen, Hakkinen, Trulli, Coulthard and Button.

The circuit surroundings

In more than one way the Monza circuit is special. It is built within the grounds of the Royal Park which is home to the Villa of Monza. It was built in the period between 1777 and 1780.

Today it is still one massive park, which makes it one of the greenest races on the Formula 1 calendar and a sight to behold when you compare it to the likes of Bahrain. Throughout the years, Monza was and remains the most appealing race even for people who are not all that into F1 racing.

The unique atmosphere, the historic significance of the racetrack, and the unique landscape surrounding it makes it easy to follow. Add to that the amazing atmosphere created by the Tifosi, and this is a sporting event in September you shouldn’t dare to miss.

The 2025 Italian Grand Prix

While Monza made a name for itself that will stand the test of time for years to come, and admiring the past is always nice, now’s the time to focus on this weekend’s grand prix.

The Formula 1 circus is entering the boiling pot part of the season, and in the next few races, the championship might be decided, and it is clear we might finally get a new McLaren champion. The current points leader, Australian Oscar Piastri, has been almost perfect this season, apart from his home race in Melbourne.

While he is the current leader, teammate Lando Norris is not too far behind. The two of them have similar odds at Stake.com to be the eventual 2025 champion. It is no wonder the bookmakers remain undecided considering that Piastri has 284 points with 6 wins and 12 podiums, while Norris has 5 wins and 12 podiums for 275 points.

The race for the 2025 FIA Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship is wide open and it is currently just between these two McLaren drivers.

Of course, it is too early to write off Max Verstappen, who is sitting in third place, with only 2 wins, 5 podiums and 187 points. The era of the Ditch Red Bull domination might be coming to an end, as it seems that McLaren finally has a car to be proud of and two drivers, both up for the task.

Circuit atmosphere – Pizza van in the paddock.

With nine races still left on the calendar, anything is possible, but we wouldn’t hold our horses for the likes of George Russell who has 1 win and 6 podiums for 172 points or Charles Leclerc who has 5 podiums for 151 points and no wins to boast so far.

Lewis Hamilton is sixth with 109 points, but the legendary Brit hasn’t moved up to the podium just yet this season, proving that his experience may not to be enough for Ferrari to try and snatch a win in the constructors’ title.

While a title run is one thing, and it is clear who are the favourites, each single race is a tale of its own. With just days to go of the much-coveted 2025 Monza race, these are our favourites to take the win home.

Lando Norris

While Piastri currently leads in the standings, the bookmakers believe that Norris is the one who will make it all the way to the top come the year end. With his odds of winning the Monza being set at 2.00 it is clear that he is the one to win it in the end, as he was the fastest of the two drivers in the last few races, which is something that will not be easy to compensate for, by the rest of the competitors at a circuit such as Monza.

Oscar Piastri

There is no bad blood between Piastri and Norris at the moment, but with both of them being in the race for the drivers’ title, the fractions could arise sooner than later. With speed being the focus in Monza, the playground is almost perfect to determine which one will be leading the way late in the year.

With Oscar’s odds being set at 2.50 it is evident that the bookies see Norris as the one McLaren will be looking to push to the top, or as being overall a more adept driver as he has been showing in a few races during this year.

Charles Leclerc

Here is where we will take a step away from what the odds are suggesting to us. The odds of Leclerc winning a race in Monza are set at 26.00. With these odds you can tell that he has slim to none chances of winning this race considering that the Ferrari is not one of the fastest out there.

Yet, we believe in Charles, and we believe in Monza. The Tifosi and the stands painted in red could give an extra boost to Ferrari drivers in one week’s time. Even if Leclerc fails to win it all, feel free to wager on him to at least reach the podium. All him a dark horse, if you will.

Max Verstappen

Unlike Leclerc, Max has more realistic chances of winning in Monza. At the end of the day, bulls are known to get enraged by red, so the stands could be a motive for Verstappen to drive faster than ever. We truly believe that Verstappen has all the tools in the shed to drive the fastest lap in Monza and to record his first win of the year in Italy. With his odds being set at 11.00, Max could be a serious bet that pays well if all things go well for the Dutch driver.

George Russell

Russell has been having a good year this season and has been proving that the talent is there. With proper backing from Mercedes, he could be the main man in Formula 1 in coming years. With one win to his name this season, he has already tasted the sweet taste of winning and recording another one in Monza would add plenty to his pedigree.

Whether that will be possible in a tight competition remains to be seen, but with his odds set at 21.00 George is definitely worth a punt. With his compatriot Lando Norris being in the run for the title, we might be entering an era of British domination in F1, which hasn’t been a thing for ages now.

Monza happens on Sunday, and in the aftermath of the Dutch Grand Prix which is on schedule this weekend, we just might be entering the most interesting part of the F1 season in 2025.
