Oliver Rowland has won the Formula E World Championship in dramatic style in the Berlin E-Prix, as Nick Cassidy took a sensational victory to complete a double win for Jaguar.

The Nissan driver typically drove calmly amid chaos to finish in fourth place, which was enough to take the title as the Porsche pair of Antonio Felix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein finished ninth and 16th.

Jake Dennis finished second, with Jean-Eric Vergne third. Mitch Evans completed a double-points finish for Jaguar with fifth, as Taylor Barnard took sixth.

Felipe Drugovich finished a superb seventh in just his second Formula E race, with Nico Mueller eighth, with Rowland’s stand-in team-mate Sergio Sette Camara 10th.

At the start, Wehrlein got a good start but so did Ticktum, and tried to get down the inside into Turn 1, but Wehrlein held him off.

Da Costa had a look at Ticktum but could not find a way through, with Frijns keeping interest close behind.

But there was no waiting around for Barnard, who took both of them for third at the end of Lap 1.

Rowland got ahead of Mortara for seventh, and had a look at Mueller for seventh but could not find a way through.

Da Costa lost fourth to Frijns, as David Beckmann took four minutes of Attack Mode at the start of Lap 3.

Frijns got into third as da Costa then put pressure on Barnard, with Beckmann moving up to seventh.

Nico Mueller got himself up to third ahead of da Costa and Frijns, but da Costa then got back into third, as Beckmann took fourth, with team-mate Ticktum taking first off Wehrlein.

As Beckmann got to the end of his first Attack Mode, he moved up from second to first, leading a Kiro 1-2.

Da Costa took Wehrlein for third and then set about challenging the Kiros, as Beckmann let Ticktum through to fend off da Costa.

But he was unable to fend off the charging pack for very long, with da Costa, Wehrlein and Frijns taking him as he was now back to normal power.

On Lap 9, Wehrlein moved ahead of his team-mate and Ticktum for first, and then dropped back to third as da Costa pushed through.

Into Lap 10, a bottleneck formed into Turn 1, with da Costa swamped by Frijns and Ticktum, dropping to fourth, as Rowland was now fifth, with Barnard now down to seventh, but quickly took Mueller for sixth.

Da Costa and Ticktum were wheel-to-wheel for much of the following lap, but the Englishman kept second and then took the lead off Wehrlein.

Frijns kept himself in the mix too, swapping places with da Costa over the next lap, a Rowland continued to stay in fifth.

By Lap 15, Beckmann remained the only driver to take Attack Mode, as Wehrlein took the lead again, with Frijns taking third from da Costa.

Frijns move ahead of Ticktum, as Lap 17 turned up the heat.

Da Costa, Frijns, Barnard and Ticktum all looked for the same position, and it was the latter who lost out, dropping to seventh behind Evans as Barnard went into second, with da Costa taking third.

Barnard storms through into the lead

On Lap 19, Barnard got his elbows out and muscled past Wehrlein for the lead, as da Costa then took second, but the flow of racing was brought to a pause by the Safety Car, brought out as Sebastien Buemi’s Envision crawled to a halt at the exit of Turn 2.

The Safety Car was out for one full lap before pulling in at the end of Lap 21, with Barnard leading from da Costa, Wehrlein and Frijns. Barnard then took Attack Mode straight away, dropping him to third, but he was back into the lead after just two corners.

Wehrlein took second into Turn 1, with as Barnard streaked off into the distance with his extra power, but it would be useless as the Safety Car was back out, as Mueller and Sam Bird came together. The Andretti was able to continue, albeit with a rear puncture.

Racing resumed on lap 26, with Wehrlein, Frijns, Rowland, Vergne, Vandoorne and Lucas di Grassi all taking Attack Mode, followed by da Costa and Evans a lap later, as most of the field all took it too, aware there were now only 11 laps left.

With Barnard not taking it again yet, he dropped back down to seventh, with Frijns now in the lead, with Rowland up to fifth, set to battle Wehrlein for position, and potentially the Drivers’ Championship.

Evans then took the lead, as da Costa held third ahead of Rowland, with Wehrlein now down to sixth, with Vergne in fifth.

Like he has done all season, Rowland appeared in the right place from nowhere, taking both Evans and da Costa for the lead.

His Attack Mode had now ran out though, with Evans and da Costa now taking their places back off him, as the Lolas were now sixth and seventh, led by Maloney.

Wehrlein was now down to 13th, his slim title hopes now looking even worse as Rowland now sat in fourth.

Da Costa led from Evans, with Rowland taking his second Attack Mode on Lap 33, with Vernge taking the lead, Evans now third and Mueller fourth, with Evans dropping back to fifth spot.

Cassidy storms into the lead as Rowland secures title-winning position

Cassidy like Race 1, found himself in fifth place, with Rowland taking the lead, and everyone else who is yet to take Attack Mode running out of time to do so without the threat of a penalty.

Cassidy was now second, with Drugovich an amazing third. Rowland started Lap 36 half-a-second ahead with race control confirming three added laps.

The Jaguar was now into the lead, with Rowland second, but currently with enough to take the World Championship.

Dennis moved into second, with Rowland not putting up much fight. Drugovich was fourth, with da Costa now down to eighth but on his final Attack Mode, with Evans ninth and Wehrlein 10th.

Rowland now dropped to fourth with Vergne moving ahead, as Barnard took fifth off Drugovich. Evans then took the Brazilian for seventh.

Into Lap 40, and Barnard and Evans produced a breathtaking display of wheel-to-wheel racing, with the Kiwi coming out on top.

A Full Course Yellow was produced briefly as Frijns stopped out on track, but with the Envision out of the way, it quickly finished just as the final lap began.

Cassidy coasted to victory, with Dennis second and Vergne third, but the biggest cheer was saved for Oliver Rowland, who came home in fourth place to be crowned the Formula E World Champion.
