Lewis Hamilton is hopeful of ending his podium drought at Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton has said he is unfazed by his 13-face Formula 1 podium drought, but admitted that this weekend’s British Grand Prix would be a “great place” to end the barren run.

The seven-time World Champion arrives at Silverstone with his longest ever period without a top three finish, amid a difficult start to his Ferrari career.

2025’s theme has been one of adaptation for Hamilton, whether it be with his car, his new team of engineers and mechanics or to the culture of the Scuderia, after 11 successful years with Mercedes.

But even when the chips have been down before, Hamilton has always found an extra gear at Silverstone, winning the race in front of his home fans a whopping nine times.

Speaking to media including Motorsport Week, Hamilton was asked if there is realism in the possibility of breaking his drought at the iconic circuit.

“Yeah, I mean, I don’t really look at those stats things, so it’s not something that affects me or what I think about,” he said. “Of course, we’re at Silverstone.

“It would be a great place to be able to change that. So that’s what we’re working towards.”

Hamilton: Ferrari ‘trying to make the best’ of current package

Hamilton was buoyed by the improvements Ferrari made to its much-maligned SF-25 at the Red Bull Ring, having managed to equal his best result of the season with fourth, behind team-mate Charles Leclerc in third.

The Scuderia brought a plethora of upgrades to its floor, which has caused a great deal of the performance issues that car has suffered with this year.

Despite the improvements, both drivers were instructed to lift and coast, in order to prevent excessive plank wear, for which Hamilton was disqualified in China.

However, Hamilton said he feels that a step forward has definitely been made by the team and indicated there is still work to be done on the car before focus switches more to its 2026 challenger.

Asked if Ferrari has laid good foundations for further improvements, Hamilton replied: “I do, I do,” adding: “I think we did take a step [in Austria], and I’m really, really hopeful that that continues. I think we still need to try and extract more from this car.

“There are still a few teething problems that we’re trying to work through, some short-term and some long-term, so we’re trying to make the best of what we have.”
