The 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona has been red flagged due to weather conditions with 7 hours and 13 minutes left to run.
A full course caution came out shortly after Tommy Milner shot off the track at Turn 1 and the field spent over an hour behind the Safety Car before the red flag came out. All cars have now returned to pit lane.
Heavy standing water has covered the track surface and despite lapping behind the Safety Car for almost an hour, the cars were unable to make an impact in clearing the deluge, therefore race control decided to pause the race.
The last time the Daytona 24 Hours was red flagged for rain was well over a decade ago. In 2004, the red flag situation lasted two hours and 52 minutes.
The current overall leader is Fernando Alonso in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi. He leads the two Acura ARX-05s of Dane Cameron and Ricky Taylor.
In the LMP2 class, the #81 DragonSpeed Oreca of James Allen leads ahead of the sister car driven by ex-F1 driver Pastor Maldonado, over a lap down.
The clock continues to tick down during the red-flag and the race will therefore at as scheduled at just after 2.30pm local time (19.30 GMT).
