McLaren has introduced a new front wing this weekend in Canada

McLaren has introduced a new front wing in the standout performance upgrade that has been brought to this weekend’s Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.

The Woking-based squad will be looking to extend its lead in both championships this weekend, having taken its third 1-2 of the season last time out in Spain.

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve provides its own complex and unique challenge, and the team has responded by introducing some specific new components.

In comes a new redesigned front wing, complete with ‘mermaid tails’ tailored towards “improving aerodynamic performance across a wide range of attitudes”.

As well as a circuit-specific alteration to its rear wing, McLaren has brought in a new geometry of its front suspension, which it hopes will “reoptimize local flow conditioning”.

Both Ferrari and Red Bull have opted to bring no new parts whatsoever, with the nearest challenger to McLaren that has being Mercedes.

The German marque has opted for a larger brake duct inlet and exit for the track along with a new floor edge, aiming at “[increasing] mass flow under forward floor and vorticity shed from the fence system, increasing floor load.”

Aston Martin, Alpine and Williams also come modestly, with circuit-specific parts, with its midfield rivals Haas bringing nothing new, but Racing Bulls has adopted a revised lower winglet endplate.

Sauber, which scored its best result of the season yet in Barcelona through Nico Hulkenberg’s fifth place, also opted to bring no new parts.
