BMW will investigate the technical issues which plagued the #1 Paul Miller Racing GTD Pro entrant during the IMSA Detroit Sportscar Classic.

Paul Miller Racing endured a challenging weekend at the Detroit Street Course, host of the fifth IMSA SportsCar Championship round in the form of a 100-minute sprint race.

Their two GTD Pro-entered #1 and #48 BMW M4 GT3 EVOs finished in 11th (last position) and seventh, after starting from the second row.

The #1 BMW suffered braking issues, causing the car to be difficult to drive around the tight and bumpy track, also marked by numerous instances of running off at Turns 1, 3 – the heaviest braking zone – and 8.

Varying surface grip, road crown, and drain covers are other unique features of such street circuits.

“Unfortunately, the race in Detroit did not go as we had hoped,” said Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport.

“After qualifying, things looked promising with third and fourth places in both classes, but unfortunately, we were unable to maintain those positions in a tough race with many contacts.

“In the GTP class, our streaks of four pole positions and two consecutive podiums have come to an end, but we are determined to start new streaks at the next race at Watkins Glen.

“Paul Miller Racing needs to quickly put this disappointing race behind them.

“We will carefully analyse what caused the issue with the #1 car.”

Neil Verhagen faced issues after running off at T8 from third place, prompting Paul Miller Racing to pit the #1 BMW for his teammate, Madison Snow, to take over.

Unfortunately, the #1 incurred a pit speed violation, which Snow served. Further issues included a heavy front-right lock-up at T8 in a difficult day.
