Nick Tandy topped the third free practice session ahead of the IMSA SportsCar Championship’s Detroit Sportscar Classic later today.

A final 20-minute free practice session, after qualifying, served as a warm-up before the 100-minute sprint race later on, hosting the fifth round.

Nick Tandy set the quickest lap time of FP3, having done a 1:08.552 at the wheel of the #7 Porsche Penske 963 GTP.

Dries Vanthoor took second position in BMW RLL’s #24 M Hybrid V8 with a 1:08.598 lap time, which situated him just 0.046 behind Tandy, though ahead of third-placed driver Mathieu Jaminet (1:08.720) of the #6 Porsche Penske.

The #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R secured fourth owing to Ricky Taylor’s lap time of 1:09.264, beating Colin Braun in fifth, who drove a 1:09.382 in the #60 Meyer Shank Acura ARX-06.

The #31 Whelen Cadillac did not set lap times because the team put priority on pit stop practice and driver changes, especially since Earl Bamber had not been with the team since Long Beach (on 12 April).

In the GTD Pro category, #9 Pfaff Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 driver Marco Mapelli was fastest with his 1:11.116.

Frederick Vervisch of the #65 Ford Multimatic Mustang GT3 took second place with a 1:11.230.

Alexander Sims claimed third for the #3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R when he completed a 1:11.346.

In fourth place, Max Hesse’s #48 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO and a 1:12.346, exactly one second behind Sims’ time.

Mike Rockenfeller of the pole-sitting #64 Ford had his quickest pace in at 1:12.452, which rounded out the top five finishers.

See here for the full results. The race commences at 15:50 ET or 20:50 BST.
