Formula 2 driver Victor Martins has been confirmed by Williams to be taking part in FP1 ahead of this weekend’s Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.

Martins, who races for ART Grand Prix in the lead feeder series, was signed to the Grove-based squad’s Driver Academy in March, and swiftly completed a test at Monza.

The 23-year-old had been part of Alpine’s academy since 2021, but was released prior to the start of this season.

Martins is now in his third season of F2 with the ART team, and so far boasts 17 podiums in the series, including two wins.

“Atlassian Williams Racing is pleased to announce that Williams Racing Academy Driver Victor Martins will take part in the first Free Practice session at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix this weekend in Barcelona, driving Alex Albon’s FW47,” a team statement read.

“This FP1 session fulfils the team’s second of four mandated driver sessions this year and marks Victor’s debut drive in a Formula 1 weekend.”

Martins currently sits in eighth in the F2 standings

The statement concluded: “Victor’s participation in the FP1 session is part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy’s proud tradition of giving young talent a path into F1, most recently demonstrated by Academy alumnus Franco Colapinto’s graduation into an F1 race seat.

“The Driver Academy supports drivers on every rung of the motorsport ladder, working with them on and off the track to develop the skills necessary to race at the top level.”

Martins will also be hoping to get his F2 title bid with ART back on track this weekend, currently sitting eighth in the Drivers’ standings, having left Monaco last weekend pointless after 17th in the Sprint Race, and a DNF in the Feature.
