Antonio Fuoco tops opening WEC free practice at Spa

Antonio Fuoco of the #50 AF Corse Ferrari 499P Hypercar was quickest during the opening WEC free practice session at Spa-Francorchamps.

Ninety minutes of track action at a bright and clear circuit kicked off the third race meeting of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Fuoco set a fastest lap time of 2:02.835, 0.222 seconds ahead of Robert Kubica’s #83 AF Corse Ferrari.

FP1 was interrupted with two full-course-yellow (FCY) periods, firstly concerning Paul-Loup Chatin’s #35 Alpine A424 Hypercar having stopped on track in between Turns 5-6, situated after the infamous Kemmel Straight.

A second FCY came out towards the end of the session after Sebastien Bourdais stopped in his #38 JOTA Cadillac V-Series.R at T12-13.

Speaking of Alpine, their #36 machine still finished third after Mick Schumacher set a lap time of 2:03.094, narrowly behind Kubica’s 2:03.057.

Peugeot finished fourth (2:03.294) and fifth (2:03.578) with #93 9X8 driver Paul di Resta going faster than #94 driver Malthe Jakobsen.

Hypercar manufacturers mix in the top 10

The #15 WRT BMW M Hybrid V8 driver of Raffaele Marciello completed a 2:03.998 for sixth place ahead of the #12 JOTA Cadillac of Will Stevens (2:04.071).

AF Corse’s #51 Ferrari was in eighth place owing to Alessandrio Pier Guidi’s 2:04.149, as Brendon Hartley put the #8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid in ninth (2:04.179).

Porsche Penske’s #6 machine was the highest-placed Porsche 963 Hypercar in 10th after his 2:04.208.

Finn Gehrsitz was the quickest driver in the LMGT3 category with a 2:18.432 at the wheel of the #78 Akkodis ASP Lexus RC F LMGT3.

Alessio Rovera took second in the #21 AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3 ahead of the other #78 Lexus, where former LMP1 champion Jose Maria Lopez set the pace.

Proton Competition’s Dennis Olsen of the #88 Ford Mustang LMGT3 claimed fourth.

The fifth-placed #10 Racing Spirit of LeMan Aston Martin Vantage AMR LMGT3 Evo set a fastest lap time of 2:19.540 from WEC debutant Yuichi Nakayama.
