Max Verstappen isn’t partaking in media day duties at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix as he awaits the birth of his first child with partner Kelly Piquet.

Verstappen was due in Florida on Thursday to converse with written and broadcast media, but has yet to fly across the Atlantic.

That’s because his partner, Piquet, is expected to give birth to her second child and first with Verstappen.

In a written statement, Red Bull said, “Hi all, please note that Max will not be attending media day in Miami as he is expecting a baby.

“All is well and he will attend track tomorrow for the race weekend.

“We will not be offering any further comment at this time in respect towards the privacy of Max and his family.”

The duo announced Piquet’s pregnancy last December ahead of the season-ending 2024 Abu Dhabi GP.

“We couldn’t be happier with our little miracle,” the couple wrote on social media announcing their “mini Verstappen-Piquet”.

Piquet’s firstborn, Penelope, is often seen supporting Verstappen at numerous GPs.

Per the statement, Verstappen is expected to participate in the Miami GP and resume the defence of his F1 title.

He currently lies third in the Drivers’ standings, 12 points behind leader Oscar Piastri.
