Fernando Alonso has urged Aston Martin to ensure that it maximises each race weekend in the 2025 Formula 1 season no matter how competitive the AMR25 proves to be.

Aston Martin has been on a gradual decline since Alonso’s arrival in 2023 coincided with an exceptional streak which comprised six podiums in the first eight races that season.

But the team has been unable to sustain the momentum as the current regulations have matured, prompting a 186-point decrease last season and no top-three finishes at all.

The Silverstone-based squad is aiming to stop the downturn in 2025 with an AMR25 car that is “close to 100 per cent new” in comparison to its recalcitrant predecessor.

Alonso, 43, believes Aston Martin will soon be able to get a handle on its new car’s raw potential due to the variance in circuit characteristics across the opening rounds.

“I think, first of all, we need to see the cars on track in Bahrain,” Alonso told media including Motorsport Week at the F1 75 season launch event.

“And probably the first couple of races, I think there are many different types of circuits at the beginning of the year.

“Australia, Jeddah, super high-speed corners. Bahrain with the braking and acceleration. So, I think we will have a better idea after three or four races.

“But for sure, the aim for us is to improve what we did last year. It’s been two consecutive seasons in P5 in the Constructors’ Championship.

“It’s going to be a challenge. It’s going to be very tight.”

Aston Martin ‘aiming for perfection’ each weekend

Despite claiming the British marque can’t be in contention to attain race wins until the reset in 2026, the Spaniard hasn’t ruled out mounting a challenge to the leading teams.

With less than a second separating the entire grid in Q1 at the 2024 season finale, the upcoming campaign – the last with the current rules – is expected to be a close one.

Alonso has stressed that incremental details will have a bearing, making it imperative that Aston Martin optimises its prospects each race with the package it has available.

“So, small details will make a huge difference in terms of points and results,” he outlined.

“So, yeah, we aim for perfection every weekend. If that’s good enough to win the points, it will be good. If that’s good enough to win, you know, fighting for higher up, it will be even better.

“And if we are not in that position, we will do our best to be in that position later in the season.

“So, yeah, I’m ready after a few months of the car. You know, the team has been working flat out to prepare this year’s challenger.

“And also, together with the new factory and everything that is going on at the factory at the moment at Aston Martin, gives us a lot of optimism for the future.”

Please inform Aston Martin that they need to produce the fastest car in formula 1.
If they cannot do that with a Honda Engine they should pack up it all in and go home!
They have Mr Alonso as the Worlds Fastest and Most Tidy Daring Driver and he will sort out the car as it arrives at the first of many corners in the lead! That’s a job for “The Best”!
AM should have the best Braking System and Chassis so Fern can do that!
Always the fastest and best handling car that will stop and last to the finish!
