Williams is strengthening its footing in F1 with a new sponsor

Williams is said to be closing in on a deal with a new title sponsor ahead of the new Formula 1 season in the form of Australian technology company Atlassian.

The Grove-based squad is set to announce the deal with the multi-billion dollar company behind the project management tool Jira, according to SportsBusiness.

Atlassian will become its second new sponsor in the last three months, having acquired Santander’s backing in December after the conclusion of the 2024 season.

The Spanish banking firm switched its allegiance from Ferrari in conjunction with its countryman Carlos Sainz, who has departed the Scuderia to partner Alex Albon.

Santander had sponsored Ferrari throughout the duration of Sainz’s four-season tenure with the Italian marque, during which time he claimed four race victories.

The potential partnership comes as Williams is continuing to expand under James Vowles’ leadership as the team bids to make up ground and return to the sharp end.

The team has already secured big backing, with Spanish banking firm Santander moving from Ferrari with its compatriot, Carlos Sainz

Vowles, who took over the role in 2022, endured a challenging campaign last time around as an overweight FW46 and various crashes dented the squad’s progress.

Nevertheless, the vision that Vowles has outlined was enough to entice Sainz to turn down Alpine and Sauber/Audi’s advances to pen a multi-term deal with the team.

Sainz made his debut outing with Williams in the 2024 car at the post-season test in Abu Dhabi in December, while he ran the 2022-spec FW45 in Barcelona last week.

Williams will launch its new challenger, the FW47, at Silverstone on February 14, four days before the all-team F1 75 launch event at the O2 in London where it will showcase its 2025 livery.
