Franco Colapinto suffered a 50G impact in his Williams during his Q2 qualifying crash at the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix qualifying session, necessitating a trip to the medical centre.

Colapinto clipped the inside left wall at Turn 16, sending him careening to the outside wall edge with what was a huge shunt.

That was the last thing that Williams needed after Colapinto wrote his car off in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, but more important was that the Argentine was able to climb out of the car.

The incident caused Colapinto to finish 14th in qualifying and Williams released a statement on his wellbeing after the session came to an end.

“During Qualifying Franco sustained a significant impact of over 50G, requiring a medical check-up,” the statement read.

“An impact of this magnitude is obviously significant and severe and he will need to be evaluated again tomorrow before we will know whether he is clear to race.

“Franco’s health is all that matters and we are glad he is otherwise okay. We will provide further updates when we can.”

At the time of writing, Colapinto had not been made available to speak to the media.

More to follow.
