Fernando Alonso will again miss his media day activities at this weekend’s Formula 1 Sao Paulo Grand Prix amid treatment earlier this week for an intestinal infection.

Alonso was absent from his pre-weekend media commitments at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez last Thursday as Aston Martin announced that he was unwell.

The Spaniard, who was scheduled to skip FP1 as reserve Felipe Drugovich drove his AMR24, participated in the remaining sessions in his 400th weekend appearance.

Aston Martin has now disclosed that Alonso was battling an intestinal infection which he returned to Europe in between rounds to receive treatment from a specialist.

The two-time F1 World Champion will arrive in Brazil later than planned and the Silverstone-based squad has given him permission to sit out his planned media duties.

“Fernando will miss his media day activities in Brazil. Fernando had suffered with an intestinal infection in the lead-up to the Mexico City Grand Prix,” Aston Martin stated.

“He returned to Europe to receive further treatment from a specialist.

“The extra day of treatment has delayed his travel plans to Brazil but ensures he will be ready for this weekend’s racing.”
