Sauber has appointed ex-Ferrari Strategist Inaki Rueda

Former Ferrari Strategist Inaki Rueda is among two new hires Sauber has announced as it continues to build towards becoming the Audi works Formula 1 team in 2026.

Rueda will become Sauber’s Sporting Director, replacing the long-serving Beat Zehnder, who will take on a new role as Director of Signature Programs and Operations.

Rueda, who has gathered extensive experience with Jordan and the Renault-owned team, hasn’t been involved in F1 since departing Ferrari before the current season.

However, the Spaniard, who worked with Sauber Motorsport boss Mattia Binotto at Ferrari, will return in the same position that he occupied whilst at the Italian marque.

Rueda’s responsibilities in his role at Sauber will extend to “overseeing all sporting activities, managing the relationship with FIA and all regulations matters trackside”.

Sauber has created a new role titled ‘Head of Racing Engineering’ to “oversee the department’s operations in Hinwil and trackside”, which Giampaolo Dall’Ara will take.

Dall’Ara has past experience with Sauber, having worked there as Head of Test Engineering and Head of Track Engineering before setting up his own consultancy firm.
