McLaren has revealed the much-anticipated revised floor design which the team had been withholding will debut at this weekend’s Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix.

The Woking-based squad introduced numerous updates to the previous round in the United States, but it opted not to also bring the new floor that was in the pipeline.

McLaren has conceded that it has been reluctant to move past the floor upgrade that has been so potent since Miami amid concern over experiencing complications.

The team’s main competitors – Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull – have all encountered unintended developmental setbacks when bolting modified floors onto their cars.

However, McLaren has chosen this weekend’s round at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as the time to unleash the new part as it strives to protect its points lead.

According to the FIA’s update document, the latest floor that will be run on the MCL38 is a “heavily revised” component that contains “geometric changes in all areas”.

Oscar Piastri will be without the new kit, though, as Lando Norris, who is aiming to chase down Max Verstappen’s points lead, will be the one whose car uses the floor.

Norris will not be competing in the opening practice session as Pato O’Ward is handed a run out on home soil, with the Mexican to run the spec that was run in Austin.
