Yuki Tsunoda is eager to earn a test outing with Red Bull

Yuki Tsunoda has revealed that he has “asked multiple times” about receiving an outing in a Red Bull Formula 1 car amid reports that it is considering a potential test.

Despite producing an impressive season with RB, Red Bull has appeared to remain unconvinced about the prospect of Tsunoda making the step up to the parent side.

Red Bull overlooking him has come despite Sergio Perez enduring a wretched campaign which sees him lag a sizeable 204 points behind team-mate Max Verstappen.

However, Honda Racing Corporation President Koji Watanabe divulged last weekend that Red Bull hasn’t ruled out Tsunoda being allotted an appearance in the future.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko proceeded to hint that the squad was discussing plans to put Tsunoda in one of its cars as early as the post-season test in Abu Dhabi.

Asked whether there was progress in securing a Red Bull test, Tsunoda told media including Motorsport Week: “I think that things will I think happen, maybe.

“But the Red Bull Racing thing, you never know until the day. So, just focus on what I have to do now.”

Tsunoda, who claimed he had “asked multiple times”, acknowledged that Honda, which will part with Red Bull once 2025 ends, was vital in earning him a possible gig.

“Definitely Honda helped me to push that testing,” he said. “Very appreciative to them.

“Obviously I was pushing since the first race as well. Even probably last year.

“Kind of [a] mix between I kind of able to show a result, I step up a bit more compared to last year, and Honda also did a bit, definitely pushed to Red Bull as well.”

Red Bull F1 test could open doors

In the circumstance where an outing does go ahead, Tsunoda has admitted that it will be a golden chance to prove to Red Bull that he deserves to partner Verstappen.

“Yeah, it’s a very good opportunity,” he expressed. “At least finally I can show a bit of my driving, they can see how I’m driving.

“I think it’s very important. At least, it feels great. Finally be given the opportunity.

“I don’t know still if it will happen or not. I mean it’s not something even I heard from them directly, at least. So yeah, I’ll try to maximise the opportunity.”
