Liam Lawson will replace Daniel Ricciardo at RB

RB has announced that Liam Lawson will take Daniel Ricciardo‘s place in the team for the remainder of the 2024 Formula 1 season from the United States Grand Prix.

Ricciardo was expected to relinquish the seat that he has held since last summer in 2025, but Red Bull has elected to make a change to the team’s line-up in advance.

The Australian’s position in the sport gathered vast attention across last weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix as he conceded that it could have marked his last race in F1.

RB has now revealed that Lawson, who conducted five outings with the team last term, has been handed the drive alongside Yuki Tsunoda for the remaining six races.

Lawson has served as Red Bull’s reserve driver since missing out on a permanent spot on the grid in 2024 but will get the chance to prove his credentials from Austin.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Liam,” RB boss Laurent Mekies said.

“He already knows the Team well. He drove for us last season, and coped well under difficult circumstances, so it’ll be a natural transition.

“It’s great to see young talent from within the Red Bull family make the next step. We’re looking forward to getting our heads down and focusing on the rest of the season together.”

Ricciardo’s time in F1 appears to be at an end, bringing the curtain down on a career that has contained eight wins, 32 podiums and three pole positions in 257 starts.

The ex-McLaren driver has expressed that he would be reluctant to pursue a seat elsewhere in F1 amid his failure to return to the front with the senior Red Bull squad.

“Everyone here at VCARB would like to thank Daniel for his hard work across the last two seasons with us,” Mekies added.

“He has brought a lot of experience and talent to the Team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone to develop and foster a tight team spirit.

“Daniel has been a true gentleman both on and off the track and never without that smile. He will be missed, but will always hold a special place within the Red Bull family.”

Lawson will be parachuted into the VCARB 01 car with RB engaged in a tight Constructors’ Championship fight as it retains a three-point lead over Haas in sixth place.
