Singapore first hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2008, marking a historic moment as the sport’s first-ever night race. Held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the event has since become one of the premier fixtures on the F1 calendar. The combination of tight street racing, a visually stunning circuit, and unpredictable weather has made Singapore a fan favourite.

The track’s high humidity and occasional tropical rainstorms add to the drama. Past champions like Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have mastered the Marina Bay circuit, so the race often shakes up the championship standings. In fact, Vettel remains the most successful driver here with five wins.

2024 Singapore GP event schedule

The 2024 Singapore Grand Prix will take place from Friday September 20th to Sunday 22nd which is race day. This three-day spectacle is packed with action both on and off the track. Friday, September 20th, starts with practice sessions, where teams fine-tune their setups for the night race. Saturday brings more practice, followed by the all-important qualifying session in the evening. Sunday, September 22nd, is when the main event unfolds—a 62-lap race under the city lights.

Beyond Formula 1, support races like the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and the debut of the F1 Academy add to the on-track excitement. And don’t forget the post-race fireworks, a grand tradition that caps off an unforgettable weekend.

Favourites for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix?

The 2024 F1 Singapore Grand Prix is shaping up to be a thrilling event, with some clear favourites emerging. As the excitement builds, betting on the Singapore Grand Prix is becoming increasingly popular, particularly among UK fans. If you’re looking to make the most of your wagers, don’t miss out on the Betano welcome offer, available for new UK players.

Max Verstappen continues to dominate the season and is widely regarded as the top contender for the Marina Bay race. Despite not securing a podium in Singapore last year, his form in 2024 has been exceptional, making him a clear favourite, with betting odds around +650.

Carlos Sainz won last year’s Singapore Grand Prix

Lando Norris is another name to watch out for. He has a strong record at Marina Bay, finishing second in 2023 and fourth in 2022, and his performance in the 2024 season so far suggests he’s ready to challenge for the top spot.

Though facing struggles in the 2024 season, Sergio Perez remains a formidable driver, especially considering his victory in Singapore in 2022. He could be a serious podium contender with odds around +2500 if he can regain his form.

Other drivers like Lewis Hamilton (+1400) and George Russell (+1600) can also potentially disrupt the frontrunners, especially on a track like Singapore, which rewards experience and precision.

Understanding the Marina Bay Circuit

The Marina Bay Street Circuit is not your average Formula 1 track. At 5.06 km, it’s a demanding circuit with 23 corners, making it one of the most technical and physically challenging circuits for drivers. The street layout means there’s little room for error, with barriers close to the track at nearly every turn. Drivers need immense concentration, as one slip could end their race.

The race takes place at night, creating a unique atmosphere where the cars race under artificial lights illuminating the track and the city skyline. The humidity is intense, often reaching up to 80%, and while rain isn’t uncommon, it adds another layer of unpredictability to the race.

The Singapore circuit’s blend of fast straights and slow corners makes it particularly exciting. Turn 10, also known as the “Singapore Sling,” has earned a reputation as one of the trickiest parts of the track. A good exit here sets drivers up for overtakes on the straights, especially leading into Turn 14.

The best way to experience the race: Ticket options

Attending the Singapore GP in person is a bucket-list event for any motorsport enthusiast, but knowing the best ticket options is essential for optimizing your experience.

Various choices depend on your budget and how close you want to get to the action. General Admission Walkabout tickets start around SG$128, offering flexibility and access to various vantage points around the circuit. These are perfect for fans who want to explore different sections of the track throughout the weekend.

Final thoughts

For those looking to enjoy the event first-hand, the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix combines world-class racing with an incredible festival-like atmosphere. The demanding nature of the circuit, combined with the unpredictability of the weather, means there’s always the potential for surprises.
