Newey signs £30m five-year Aston Martin F1 deal – report

Newey is poised to join Aston Martin

Adrian Newey is on the cusp of signing a mega-money contract with Aston Martin’s Silverstone-based Formula 1 squad, according to a report.

According to BBC Sport, Newey is set to sign a five-year deal with Aston Martin, worth in the region of £30 million a year, plus bonuses.

The report states that the blockbuster signing will be announced via a special press conference at the team’s Silverstone headquarters on Tuesday.

Newey, 65, is managed by former F1 team owner turned pundit Eddie Jordan, who has remained tight-lipped regarding Red Bull’s outgoing Chief Technical Officer.

Aston Martin too has remained coy on the subject, telling the BBC, “Adrian has been linked to many teams and would be an asset to any team, but we don’t have anything to announce.”

Still, the rumour mill has been turning for some time now, with Newey’s move from Milton Keynes to Silverstone oft-cited as the most likely outcome.

The Briton announced in May that he will depart Red Bull after the first quarter of 2025.

Having joined Red Bull ahead of the 2006 season, Newey has been a key figure in attaining the team’s seven Drivers’ titles and six Constructors’ Championships to date.

Newey’s expertise also saw him bring hoards of silverware to McLaren and Williams during his pre-Milton Keynes career.

Aston Martin is seriously stepping up its F1 readiness under Team Owner Lawrence Stroll.

The team has already moved into its state-of-the-art new facility on its pre-existing Silverstone site, with a brand new wind tunnel set to come online in the New Year.

Moreover, Aston Martin is set to welcome Honda as a works engine partner in 2026 and has ensured its star driver Fernando Alonso will pilot its creations through that period.

When Newey officially gets announced as an Aston Martin team member, he will join an impressive technical team and the motorsports betting world will no doubt tip the Silverstone-based squad to move on to bigger and better things.

The Briton’s former Red Bull colleague Dan Fallows serves as Aston Martin’s Technical Director and erstwhile Ferrari Chassis Technical Director Enrico Cardile will head to Silverstone in 2025 as Chief Technical Officer.

No doubt then, Newey’s arrival will create a slight organisational headache for Aston Martin in its technical team, but a man of his talents requires flexibility.
