McLaren has revealed that it has brought numerous upgrades to this weekend’s Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix as the team continues its endeavour to catch Red Bull.
The Woking-based squad has emerged as Red Bull’s most regular challenger since introducing developments in Miami which helped Lando Norris to his maiden win.
Despite Ferrari and Mercedes bringing revised parts onto their respective machines, McLaren has continued to provide the greatest threat to Max Verstappen’s RB20.
Now, McLaren has ramped up its strive to become the pacesetting benchmark with two modified components revealed on the FIA’s official upgrades sheet in Austria.
McLaren will use a new front wing with an altered geometry, which will work in tandem with an updated front suspension to improve flow conditioning on the MCL38.
Meanwhile, Mercedes has adopted a modified beam wing to its ever-improving W15 charger this weekend, which is designed to reduce the load to result in less drag.
Ferrari will aim to exploit the potential it didn’t unlock from its new package in Barcelona, but the SF-24 will be sporting additional cooling louvres at the Red Bull Ring.
Elsewhere, RB is another team seeking to understand the wholesale upgrades it brought to the previous round and the two cars will be running split-specs during FP1.
But Daniel Ricciardo disclosed that the Faenza-based side would deliver more parts this weekend and amendments to the winglets on the rear drum have been made.
Aston Martin, Haas, Red Bull, Sauber and Williams have all not declared additions amid this weekend featuring one practice hour due to the Sprint format being used.
