Lance Stroll is adamant that he is committed to Aston Martin’s Formula 1 venture and has denied that he is not under pressure to deliver amid his father’s ownership.

Stroll has been aligned with the Silverstone-based squad since making the move across from Williams in 2019 upon Lawrence Stroll’s takeover the previous summer.

The Canadian has remained through its transition into Aston Martin in 2021, but he has trailed his team-mate in the championship in all five seasons since his switch.

Last season witnessed Stroll end a comprehensive 132 points behind Fernando Alonso, who also recorded all eight of the podium finishes that Aston Martin attained.

But while those struggles have prompted questions over his motivation, Stroll has insisted that he has no intention to vacate his current drive with the British marque.

Asked whether he remained committed to Aston Martin’s F1 venture, Stroll said in Monaco: “Yes, for sure. I’m committed in this whole project.

“We’ve gone from a team that, you know, had 350, 400 people, you know, in 2018, 19 it was, and now we’re pushing the number of a thousand people.

“And it looks very different in Silverstone now than 18 months ago.

“So, yes, I’m definitely committed and excited to be a part of this project.”

Despite Aston Martin being unable to recapture the glittering form it showed 12 months ago, Fernando Alonso has elected to pen a multi-term renewal with the team.

Stroll Sr’s ambition to turn Aston Martin into a title contender has seen investment in a brand-new base at Silverstone and a works engine deal with Honda from 2026.

“I mean, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come as a team the last five years,” Stroll expressed. “I think we’ve grown so much as a team since we were in pink colours.

“And we have a very exciting wind tunnel that’s being built. We have an incredible facility that’s now in Silverstone that we moved into last year.

“So there’s a lot of pieces of this puzzle that are really coming together that have been coming together over the last few years and along with the talented people that have been in Silverstone for many years, a lot of new talented people have joined and are joining which makes this project very exciting.

“So in my mind, you know, definitely for the future that’s where my head’s at.”

Stroll has also rubbished the notion that his father’s direct involvement in Aston Martin has meant that he lacks the edge to perform as his seat will not be under threat.

“I’m the most competitive person I know, so I’m someone that I like to see myself do super well and perform super well,” he explained.

“And it feels good, even if times are tough. Last weekend to just pick up a couple points [at Imola] was nice. I still enjoy that.

“The first person that’s hard on myself on a day when things don’t go well, and I’m still excited and happy as ever when I have a great day you know since the last seven, eight years that I’ve been in Formula One. So that feeling is still driving me to keep pushing, to keep going.

“And yes, I hate having bad days just like I’m sure everyone does in this paddock so absolutely.

“And it’s a team effort, it’s fun to be really a part of this journey and this project and see all these elements and Silverstone coming together and you know last year we started the season really strong and that was like a very big step forward for us we had a bit of a dip and this year it’s been a little bit more challenging.

“But I still see a lot of positivity and excitement you know in Silverstone which makes me positive and excited.”
