Aston Martin has lodged a Right of Review regarding the penalty received by Fernando Alonso in the aftermath of Formula 1’s Sprint Race in China.

Alonso was issued a 10-second time penalty after he was judged to have caused a collision with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz while they battled over third place.

Alonso retired from the race in the wake of the contact, meaning the time penalty had no impact, but he was also handed three penalty points, bringing his rolling 12-month total up to six.

On Tuesday stewards notified that they have received a petition for a Right of Review from Aston Martin, with Ferrari also summoned to attend.

The hearing will be held virtually on Friday morning (08:00 ET) ahead of the upcoming Miami Grand Prix.

“It should be noted that this hearing will be held in two parts,” read a statement from the stewards.

“The first part will be to hear evidence as to whether there is a “significant and relevant new element which was unavailable to the party seeking the Review at the time of the decision concerned.”

“Should the Stewards determine, in accordance with Article 14.3 of the FIA International Sporting Code, that such an element exists, a second part of the hearing will be convened at a time to be advised.”

“Any other “concerned party” may seek the permission of the Stewards to be present for the second part of the hearing, should one be convened.”
