Haas has announced that Nico Hulkenberg will leave the Formula 1 team at the end of the 2024 season.
Hulkenberg is expected to link up with Sauber – soon to morph into Audi – on a multi-year deal.
Veteran Hulkenberg joined Haas at the start of 2023, returning to the grid full-time for the first time since 2019, and scored nine of the team’s 12 points.
Hulkenberg has started 2024 strongly, scoring four points across the opening three rounds, as Haas sits seventh in the Constructors’ Championship.
“I’d like to extend my thanks to Nico for his contributions to the team in the time that he’s been here with us – he’s been a great team player and someone we very much enjoy working with,” said Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu.
“His experience and feedback have proved invaluable to us in terms of improving our overall performance – a fact that’s clearly evident in both his qualifying and race performances in the VF-24 this season.
“There’s lots more racing to go this year so we look forward to continuing to benefit from his inputs throughout the remainder of the 2024 season.”
Haas has not provided any further information regarding its line-up for 2025 and beyond.
Incumbent Kevin Magnussen has raced for the team since 2017 – bar a one-year absence in 2021 – while Haas is due to field Ferrari Driver Academy youngster Ollie Bearman in six practice sessions this season.
Bearman, 18, made his Formula 1 debut for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia as a late call-up for the sidelined Carlos Sainz and claimed seventh position.
Bearman’s first public Formula 1 experience came with Haas at the end of 2023, running in FP1 at Mexico City and Abu Dhabi.
