Fuoco sets pace in final free practice at Imola

Ferrari”s Antonio Fuoco went quickest for the second consecutive session, in the third and final free practice for the FIA World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Imola.

The #50 Ferrari 499P driver set a 1:31.238, 0.034 faster than Dries Vanthoor, in the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8. Rene Rast made it a BMW 2-3, just under three tenths off his BMW stablemate.

Robert Shwartzman was next up in the customer #83 AF Corse Ferrari, while Matt Campbell was in fifth, first of the Porsches, in the #5 Porsche 963.

The sister factory Ferrari, #51, was sixth, almost half a second off Fuoco. Pier Guidi had a moment early on as he spun at the Villeneuve chicane, causing a brief yellow flag, but the Italian managed to spin the car around and continue on his way, with no harm to the scarlet car.

Brendon Hartley was seventh in the #8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid, while Callum Ilott was eighth in the #12 JOTA Porsche 963, with Kamui Kobayashi next up in the sister #8 Toyota, and Kevin Estre rounding out the top ten in the #6 Porsche.

Over in LMGT3, Marco Sorensen set the fastest time, 1:42.474, in the #777 D’Station Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3. Daniel Manichelli made it an Aston 1-2, onboard the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin, while Augusto Farfus was third quickest in the #31 Team WRT BMW M4 GT3.

Fourth and fifth were Manthey Purerxcing’s Joel Sturm, in the #92 Porsche 911 GT3 R, and Marino Sato driving the #95 United Autosports McLaren 720S GT3 Evo.

Right at the end of the session, Paul Di Resta went off track at Rivazza, and although the Scot kept the #94 Peugeot 9X8 out of the barriers, it needed to be recovered by the marshals. This caused a red flag, but the session was less than a minute towards being finished when the Peugeot driver hit the gravel.
