Verstappen won the first Sprint race of the year with a 13-second time margin ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Team-mate Sergio Perez completed the top three.
The Ferrari duo came home fourth and fifth, with Charles Leclerc ahead of Carlos Sainz. Sprint polesitter Lando Norris was sixth ahead of team-mate Oscar Piastri.
George Russell finished in eight, the last point-scoring position, and Zhou Guanyu saw the chequered flag ninth on home soil, with Kevin Magnussen 10th.
