Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) and Cadillac are set to part ways at the end of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship seasons.

CGR first partnered with the General Motors manufacturer in the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech season in the DPi era, in which they fielded a Cadillac DPi-V.R.

The alliance continued into the LMDh era which began last year, enabling two Cadillacs to be fielded – one in IMSA and another in the WEC, owing to the convergence of the LMDh formula eligible in both championships.

Whilst the IMSA drivers, Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande, in the #01 Cadillac V-Series.R, have claimed one GTP victory last year at Laguna Seca, their WEC counterparts, Alex Lynn and Earl Bamnber, have yet to claim victory in the world championship. The WEC programme is based in Germany.

Their best finishing position was third and fourth at the Centenary Le Mans, with the blue #2 WEC car finishing in front of the yellow #3 entrant invited from IMSA.

This considered, however, Action Express Racing secured both the inaugural GTP title since the name was revived from IMSA’s history, as they also took victory at Petit Le Mans last year.

It is understood that CGR had a three-year contract with Cadillac since 2022, and so it has not been renewed beyond 2024. It is also believed Action Express are looking to add a second car to their IMSA programme for next year, while the WEC programme may also continue and be bolstered with the addition of a second car, with a new team partner.

“Our GM divisions have had successful partnerships with Chip Ganassi Racing across multiple series – NASCAR, INDYCAR, EXTREME-E, IMSA and FIA WEC – over the years,” Jim Campbell, General Motors vice president, performance and motorsports, said.

“Together we have won numerous races and have had great success.

“We remain committed to winning races and championships together in IMSA and FIA WEC this year.

“Our sportscar plans for 2025 will be announced at a later date,” he concluded.

MotorsportWeek.com has reached out to Chip Ganassi Racing and will update this article if or when we hear back.
