Ex-McLaren Formula 1 team boss Ron Dennis will receive a Knighthood, while current Red Bull chief Christian Horner has been made a CBE in the New Year’s Honours list.

The work of both Dennis and Horner has been recognised by King Charles III, who made his first New Year’s Honours list since his coronation in May earlier this year.

Dennis had previously been named a CBE for his services to motorsport, having guided the McLaren team to 17 World Championships and 158 wins in his 37-year tenure.

Since departing the Woking squad in 2017, Dennis has worked with the UK government as the Non-Executive Director at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

The Briton has also served as the Chairman of Podium Analytics since 2019 and is a current patron and former Co-Chairman of Tommy’s Campaign.

That has led to Dennis being set to be knighted for his services to industry and charity to become the seventh individual with an F1 background to receive the honour.

Christian Horner (GBR) Red Bull Racing Team Principal celebrates on the podium. 24.09.2023. Formula 1 World Championship, Rd 17, Japanese Grand Prix, Suzuka, Japan, Race Day.

Meanwhile, Horner, who had been made an OBE back in 2013 after leading Red Bull to four consecutive title doubles, has now been promoted to a CBE 11 years later.

Horner was at the helm for the statistically most dominant season in F1 history as Red Bull swept to 21 race wins in 22 races en route to securing both championships.

After being recognised for his services to motor racing, Horner expressed that he was pleased that the privilege provides a wider reflection of the success of British motorsport.

“It was an unexpected distinction a decade ago to be presented with an OBE and to receive this second award, a CBE, is one for which I am hugely grateful and deeply honoured,” he said.

“It is a great privilege to lead and work alongside such a phenomenal team as Oracle Red Bull Racing and also to work in an industry that contributes so much to the UK economy.

“I am enormously proud of what we have achieved with Red Bull in Formula 1 and in the wider high technology arena, and I am hugely honoured to be recognised for that effort.”
