AlphaTauri lead AbuDhabi GP updates with revised floor

The 2023 Formula 1 season finale in Abu Dhabi affords teams one final chance to bring updates to their cars and AlphaTauri leads the way with a fully revised floor.

After a pointless showing in Las Vegas, AlphaTauri is facing an uphill battle to overcome a seven-point deficit to Williams for seventh in the Constructors’ Championship.

However, the Faenza-based squad has brought one last update to the floor of the AT04 which could aid its pursuit of scoring the necessary points it needs to beat Williams.

Revisions to the Floor Body, Floor Fences and Floor Edge signify one final push for aerodynamic performance from AlphaTauri in the 2023 campaign.

The Floor Body sees changes to the forward and central floor areas – designed to work with modifications made to the Floor Fences – which will look to generate more aerodynamic load via further modifications to the keel area above the tea tray and mid-floor ‘canoe’ surfaces.

The forward part of the Floor Edge wing has been reduced in camber to improve airflow quality toward the rear floor edges and work with the rest of the overall floor changes to improve local aerodynamic load.

Aston Martin entered the 2023 season with arguably the second-fastest car but has encountered issues during the development race that have seen the team slip down the pecking order and often run the fifth-fastest car on any given weekend behind Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren.

The Silverstone-squad look resigned to fifth in the Constructors’ Championship on 273 points, 11 behind McLaren.

Therefore, the team has elected to use Abu Dhabi as another weekend to experiment with the AMR23 and figure out how to recover its scintillating early-season form.

As such, the British marque has opted to make a trio of modifications to the rear wing assembly – with a wider span Beam Wing, minor changes to the endplates and revisions to the upper rear wing assembly and all of these modifications are hoped to increase load on the wing was operating at a higher level of efficiency.

Finally, Alfa Romeo has made two changes to the Front Wing on the C43 by redesigning the endplates as well as reprofiling and redesigning the main plane of the front wing.

The changes made to the Front Wing on the C43 are intended to influence airflow across the entire body of the car whilst improving its overall aerodynamic efficiency.

The changes made to Alfa Romeo’s car will likely have little effect on its standing in the Constructors’ Championship, with the Hinwil-based outfit languishing in ninth with 16 points, four ahead of last-placed Haas and five behind eighth-placed AlphaTauri.
