The NEOM McLaren Formula E Team have become the third outfit to unveil their season 10 livery, ahead of next week’s pre-season test in Valencia.
McLaren showed their fresh design to the world on Tuesday afternoon, with it now consisting of a full papaya and black colour scheme. Light blue was also present in the team’s season nine livery; however, this has been removed to allow the team’s design to be closer to the ‘NEOM McLaren Electric Racing signature linework’.
The papaya is the clear indicator to fans across the world that the side are part of the McLaren Racing family, with it having a more striking presence for 2023/24. The retained Jake Hughes and the newly signed Sam Bird will be hoping to get the stunning design to the front of the grid during the upcoming campaign.
Hughes is set to embark on his sophomore Formula E season, with his rookie year having been excellent. The only thing missing for Hughes last season was a podium, given that he claimed two pole positions and multiple top-five finishes. He’ll be keen to get onto the rostrum in season 10.
Bird has made the move to McLaren to replace René Rast, after he opted to leave Jaguar TCS Racing, who also unveiled their new livery on Tuesday. After an underwhelming three years with Jaguar, Bird needs a strong campaign with McLaren to truly bounce back, given that he is one of the quickest drivers on the grid when he’s at his best.
His experience could prove vital to McLaren’s progression in the category, whilst Hughes could also learn a significant amount from his new partner. Team Principal Ian James is excited to get the new season underway and is keen to see the new livery in action, starting next week in Valencia.
“As we prepare to go racing in our second season in Formula E, we are building on everything we learnt in Season 9,” James said. “We are continually evolving as a team and this livery represents that. I can’t wait to see the car with this new livery on track at all the iconic locations we will be visiting in Season 10.”
