Stroll: Formula 1 should keep grid at 10 teams

Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll believes there is no need for Formula 1 to allow Andretti’s entry and expand beyond 10 teams.

The FIA approved Andretti’s application to join the grid earlier this week but the outfit must now conduct commercial discussions with Formula 1.

Formula 1, and the majority of the existing teams, have been lukewarm over the prospect of expanding the grid.

Speaking to Sky Sports following the announcement of Aston Martin’s Le Mans project Stroll laid out his team’s stance.

“I think F1 at the moment, the business is on fire, the sport has never been in a better place, and I believe if it ain’t broke you don’t need to fix it,” said Stroll.

“I’m a strong believer that it’s working really well with 10 teams right now and believe that’s the way it should stay.”

“As I said the sport and the business is on fire. There’s never been more fans or spectators, the audience is the highest it has ever been. I continue to see substantial growth, particularly in the United States which is the largest consumer market in the world.

“As you know we now have three races in the States – we’re in our second year in Miami, we’re going to Las Vegas in November, so I see tremendous growth possibilities going forward.”

Stroll has owned Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team since mid-2018, when he took over the ailing Force India squad.
